Friendly Southerners

I have this burr in my saddle
about Southerner's conceit that they are genetically friendly and politic. My list of slights and observations that counter that notion is enormous and expanding. The other night I attended an Audubon fundraiser and was regaling the state president about my favorite Audubon sites when a 70ish lady of slight build interrupted us to say a hello to the President. She brushed past me, interrupted my story about birds in Florida and did her social thing with Madam President. I immediately vanished from the face of the Earth till Miss Graybelle finished, sauntered off to interrupt someone else and I was allowed back in the Presidents's sphere.
